Location : Fontana, CA
Salary : $70,000 — $85,000
POSITION PURPOSE
The Design Tech 2 is responsible for creating or revising documents for the production of custom products based on existing, improved, and new ideas. This includes improving modeling, drafting and design accuracy for the feasibility of manufacturing of the product with current operations. This position is focused on getting the job done right the first time by placing a high emphasis on quality of workmanship, accountability, safety, and teamwork.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support all continuous improvements in safety, quality, 5S and existing manufacturing processes
- Provide feedback to leadership to help resolve quality issues or operational improvements regarding productivity and procedural changes
- Know and abide by all company rules and policies with regards to safety and conduct, including the use and maintenance of company provided PPE
- Embrace the cross-training culture by a willingness to learn other jobs or tasks within the facility
- Do daily housekeeping to ensure the work area is always clean and organized
- Flexible schedule is required regarding overtime and start time according to work volumes
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow best practices and industry standards to create or revise the Company’s product files according to customer requirements
- Drive process excellence and root cause corrective actions by initiating and following through with 5-Why Investigations
- Follow an established procedure within the department and other departments including but not limited to any SOP established for product design or production
- Understand Manufacturing Support team duties and flexible in working in this role as needed
- Ability to work with short deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Can recognize system issues and bring awareness of ideas for continuous improvement initiatives
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create standard operating procedures (SOP’s) when opportunity arises and edit established SOP’s to accommodate continuous improvement initiatives
- Support Production Development efforts through designing, modeling, and testing prototypes of products
- Participate in continuous improvement meetings and corresponding experience and projects
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Highly skilled in SolidWorks modeling and detailing
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- An always learning attitude regarding the Company process and designs, as well as industry standards and customer needs
- Highly organized and attentive to tight deadlines with a sharp attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Communicate and work well in routine/unplanned circumstances with Sales, Team Leads, and shop personnel
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- The Design Tech 2 will spend most of their time sitting and using office equipment
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required of supplies and materials
- The employee frequently uses both hands to grip, hold, and type
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While this is an office-based role the Design Tech 2 will be exposed to the below factors on the production floor:
- High noise levels
- Contact with metals and lubricants
- Exposure to moving objects such as machinery, mechanical parts, forklifts, and carts
- Exposure to hot or cold temperature when working in areas of the building that cannot be temperature controlled (especially during summer months)
- Exposure to fast paced work environment
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years in relevant industry experience with significant experience in Solidworks use
- 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment a plus
- Demonstrates 3D CAD knowledge
- SolidWorks certification a plus
