Seeking an Optomechanical Systems Engineer with a strong foundation in optomechanical design and a comprehensive understanding of systems engineering principles. The ideal candidate will excel in bridging the technical intricacies of optical and mechanical systems with the broader requirements of complex engineering projects. This role is pivotal in ensuring seamless integration of optomechanical components into larger systems while adhering to rigorous requirements, traceability, verification, and validation processes.

Responsibilities

Optomechanical Design and Analysis

  • Design and develop optomechanical components, assemblies, and systems, leveraging expertise in lenses, mirrors, sensors, and mounts.
  • Perform simulations, analyses (thermal, structural, dynamic), and prototyping to optimize designs.
  • Support tolerance analysis, alignment strategies, and optical performance characterization.

Systems Engineering

  • Define, document, and manage system-level requirements for optomechanical systems.
  • Establish traceability between system requirements, design specifications, and test protocols.
  • Lead the development and execution of system verification and validation plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (optical, mechanical, software, and electrical engineers) to ensure system-level compliance.
  • Perform trade studies and feasibility analyses to balance technical performance, cost, and schedule constraints.

Project Leadership

  • Act as the technical interface between engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams.
  • Coordinate with program management to align technical activities with project timelines and deliverables.
  • Drive risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and issue resolution at the system level.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Develop technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and compliance reports.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company quality management systems.
  • Support audits, reviews, and regulatory submissions as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in optomechanical design and systems engineering in a relevant industry (e.g., aerospace, medical devices, defense, photonics).

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and optical design software (e.g., Zemax, CODE V).
  • Experience with systems engineering tools (e.g., DOORS).
  • Knowledge of thermal, structural, and dynamic analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS).
  • Familiarity with optical metrology techniques and tools.

Systems Engineering Expertise

  • Proven track record in requirements definition, decomposition, and management.
  • Experience with verification and validation processes, including environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock).
  • Ability to navigate complex, multi-disciplinary technical challenges.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work across disciplines and leadership levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, medical devices).
