Job Summary

This position is responsible for conducting feasibility studies, customer presentations, requirements definition, trade show set-up, training, validating design robustness, and onsite post-sales support/installation. The Application Engineer determines the right combination of sensor hardware, optics, lighting, and programing for an optimal solution that meets the customers’ system requirements, manufacturability constraints, and fits within the customer’s defined budget. This person will guide customers to a robust solution producing high reliability for the customers’ system and works within the manufacturing abilities of the Company. Ensuring the solution can be supported over Life Sciences customer’s 7+ year life cycle.

The Applications Engineering team provides technical expertise and supports the sales organization in selling Company’s products to assist sales in exceeding their quota. Along with working closely with the Life Sciences Program Manager to convey timing and priorities of tasks and projects.

Additional task will be assigned as needed by the manager.

Essential Functions

  • Provides application feasibilities studies
  • Conducts demonstrations and online trials of products at customer sites, trade shows, seminars, and events
  • Collect all technical requirements of customer systems
  • Troubleshoots issues at customers and provides resolutions to problems
  • Completes evaluation reports in a timely and complete manner while recommending a solution that fits within the constraints of the application
  • Provides expertise in the integration of Company products with devices such as PLCs, PCs, or Controllers
  • Support customers with software scripting interfaces between the host system and Company vision software
  • Develops a broad technical knowledge of Company’s product families
  • Provides customer and sales engineer training when required
  • Provides product feedback to Solutions Engineering Manager and Product Business Units to improve products
  • Provides sales intelligence to sales when communicating with or visiting customers to help Company win

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven track record of success in solving vision applications as an Applications Engineer(Experience in the Life Sciences market a plus)
  • Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and industrial automation systems
  • Knowledge of Java scripting, .net, or C# programming preferred
  • Knowledge of development as well as production environments and processes
  • Ability to travel 50%+ of the time – should be willing to travel on short notice
  • Able to handle/resolve challenging customer situations
  • Industry expertise in relation to Company’s products
  • Comfortable working both on-site at customer facilities and remotely
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • PC literate with a working knowledge of MS Windows applications
  • Ability to work independently is required

Minimum education and work experience required

  • Technical Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of relevant experience working with machine vision systems or optical based imaging
  • Knowledge of optics and/or lighting for machine vision is desirable
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing and manufacturing variations/tolerances is desirable
  • Proven engineering experience and experience working with sales
  • Knowledge of software coding environments desirable
