Location : Fontana, CA

Salary : $90,000 — $110,000

POSITION PURPOSE

The Industrial Engineer applies industrial engineering, lean manufacturing and 6 sigma techniques to establish an effective lean manufacturing environment, ensure product quality, improve process flow, and reduce cost. This is a key role in maintaining manufacturing as a competitive advantage.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support all continuous improvements in safety, quality, 5S and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Provide feedback to leadership to help resolve issues or operational improvements in regards to productivity and procedural changes.
  • Know and abide to all company rules and policies with regards to safety and conduct, including the use and maintenance of company provided PPE.
  • Embrace the cross-training culture by a willingness to learn other jobs or tasks within the facility.
  • Do daily housekeeping to ensure the work area is always clean and organized.
  • Flexible schedule is required in regards to overtime and start time according to work volumes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Support:

  • Perform Methods Engineering analysis including process design, time and motion study, and production line balancing.
  • Conduct ergonomics / human factors evaluations, recommending and implementing improvements to work area designs.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing facility design of plant layout, material handling systems, material staging and warehousing as required.
  • Calculate and maintain capacity data for materials processing, people, space, and equipment associated with production.
  • Develop production process training content and curriculum.
  • Manage Kanban system, including optimization and adjustments for operations implementations

Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead Kaizen training and facilitate Kaizen events.
  • Demonstrate and deploy continuous improvement tools, including value stream mapping, process guides, checklists and training.
    • Document and communicate Continuous Improvement procedures, processes and successes.

Performance Management:

  • Establish and maintain performance measurement and control documents associated with work standards, learning curves and man/machine performance
  • Identify key metrics and measurement and data sources. Develop and analyze performance measurement plans and reports

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • High aptitude in reading and interpreting technical documents.
  • Highly organized and attentive to tight deadlines with a sharp attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Communicate and work well in routine/unplanned circumstances with Sales, Purchasing, and Operations.
  • An always learning attitude regarding the Company process and designs, as well as industry standards and customer needs.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Management Information Systems or related field of study. MBA is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in Industrial Engineering in a Lean/6 sigma manufacturing environment. 6 sigma Greenbelt / Black belt preferred.
  • Superior knowledge of and demonstrated success with Lean methods (5S, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, SMED, TPM, etc.) and 6 sigma tools.
  • Metalworking / Hollow Metal fabrication experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Ergonomic standards.
  • MS Word, MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Flowcharting, CAD
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Principals and SPC factory applications.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation and training skills.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While this is an office based role the Industrial Engineer will be exposed to the below factors on the production floor:

  • High noise levels.
  • Contact with metals and lubricants.
  • Exposure to moving objects such as machinery, mechanical parts, forklifts, and carts.
  • Exposure to hot or cold temperature when working in areas of the building that cannot be temperature controlled (especially during summer months)
