Salary : $75,000 — $85,000

General Description

Estimators are responsible for the development of quote documents received by either outside sales representatives or calls coming into the office. Employees in this position work closely with the sales team to gather all the details needed to accurately quote projects. In addition to preparing quote documents, estimators are also responsible for auditing project prices/material take offs at time of release to fabrication, pre-ordering non-stocked items once the order is received, comparing Purchase Orders to quote documents, and sending orders/purchase orders to order processing.

Work Activities

  • Gather customer or product information to determine customer needs
  • Select or assist customers in selecting products based on customer needs, product specifications, applicable regulations, and safety
  • Meet customer on time delivery of bid/proposal expectations
  • Include any upsell or alternative options to customer
  • Quote all prices, credit terms, or other bid specifications per Company policies
  • Maintain constant communication with key stakeholders, internal & external
  • Answer customers’ questions about products, prices, availability, or credit terms
  • Compute customers’ installation or production costs and estimate cost changes for new services, products, or equipment (when applicable)
  • Follow Company procedures to process new and change orders
  • Submit purchasing requests for non-stocked items
  • Travel to customer sites as needed
  • Attend events to develop professional knowledge
  • Study product information to acquire professional knowledge

Basic Skills

  • Communicate information effectively both verbal and written
  • Math skills necessary for basic engineering analysis and problem solving
  • Analyze technical information. Ensure that we have enough information to effectively provide an accurate quote This may include 3D drawings, Isometric Drawings, customer technical specifications, industry specifications, design and fabrication codes and standards
  • Fluent in English and utilize proper grammar in all written communication and documents
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems
  • Use of Measuring Equipment – Laser tape measures, levelling equipment, other measurement tools

Technology & Computer Skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point
  • ERP, quotation, and opportunity tracking systems
  • Drafting tools (i.e.: SolidWorks)

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, manufacturing, or other technical field, or 2 years work experience in relevant technical engineering, manufacturing, or construction role

Special Requirement:

  • Travel and overnight stays with possible international travel
  • May be required to work weekends and holidays as business necessitates; schedules will be determined by management with at least 48 hours advance notice

Work Environment

  • Normal office environment with frequent excursions to material, manufacturing, and testing
  • When out of the office, the following conditions may apply:
    • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
    • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperature
